PROGRAMS BEING CONDUCTED BY GSMBA.
1-EVANGELIZATION
The axis of the entire activities of GSMBA is evangelism as portrayed by the organizations motto “that the y may have life to the full” Jn:10:10. For one to have a holistic life there is an immense call for a greater understanding of God. As a matter of fact, there should be thoughtfulness of one’s self and neighbor. Thus in its endeavors, GSMBA strives toward greater personal relationship with God and neighbor, self discovery through imparting self-knowledge, self-understanding, growth and development.
This will guarantee economic development, community and spiritual empowerment for the stakeholders in their respective communities thus an integral person.
2-COMMUN ITY BASED PROGRAMS
Under this program, GSMBA undertakes an array of programs and activities pursuant to its planned operational strategies/plans. All these are intended to respond to the needs of the less advantaged and needy groups in the rural communities. Among others, the organization is now running the following programs;
Poultry projects
The organization through its associates has completed one poultry project with 100 chickens. From this project we hope not only to get eggs but also high quality manure which will improve the yields in Batwa’s small gardens.
Bee keeping projects
Bee keeping was deemed as one of the favorable projects in this region given the favorable conditions around its vicinity. Given the great and vast forests around, both the materials for making beehives are easily accessed and these very forests act as habitats for the bees. The market for honey is rest assured in region as we have more than 3 honey processing plants in the region. At the moment the organization has completed 1 project with 42 bee hives and has switched to the second one for another community.
Sheep and Goat rearing
This is yet another project that was begun in September 2008. It belongs to two Batwa communities and has 18 sheep and 16 goats. After a given period of time (almost 3 years), the organization intends to distribute these goats and sheep to individual families from which after producing, each individual family will be expected to donate a sheep/goat to the family without and the chain goes on. From this we also get manure which we in turn use in farming.
Agriculture
Agriculture being one of the activities that forms the back borne of the population in the region, a lot has been invested by the organization members to equip these under looked and marginalized people with basic skills enough to boost their agricultural activities. A bunch of thanks go to DIG International which sent volunteers (Mr. Steve Bollinger and colleagues) to give these masses basics and hints about modern farming and donated a variety of seeds to them.
Orphanage support program
This is being conducted hand in hand with Kabale Diocesan Orphanage office. We have so far some orphans under our care both in primary schools and one in three in secondary school. More awaits our help but we can not due to our shaky financial stand.
Health Care Services
Medical personnel from Our Lady of Perpetual help Health Unit Kishanje volunteer twice a week to visit two or three Batwa communities. They offer a wide range of services like immunization, Antenatal services as well as conducting some workshops about fighting malnutrition, HIV/AIDS awareness program, Family planning (Natural Family Planning method) and alike.
